Location
Momiji is positioned in pristine forest, ski-in & ski-out to the Cortina and Norikura resorts, at the north-east end of the Hakuba Valley in Nagano prefecture, Japan. There are multiple ways to travel from Narita and Haneda Airports to Momiji, including:
Shinkansen
Shinkansen (the bullet train) to Nagano Station and then bus to Hakuba.
Riding the bullet train is like a holiday in itself - a must try! However…if this is your first time in Japan and you’ve just arrived after a long flight with lots of luggage, it might be a bit taxing, so consider a layover in Tokyo, or try a private charter.
If you’re up for the fun of the Bullet train, you’ll need the timetable in English, our detailed guide which will walk you through a trip from Haneda or Narita to Momiji and this bus timetable to cross reference your train with.
Pickup from Nagano Station
Private charter from Nagano Station. Up to 9 passengers (passenger numbers depend on amount of luggage). ¥25,000 JPY. Contact us early to reserve.
Private Charter
By far the most stress-free option for getting from the airport or Tokyo. Cost-effective for larger groups. Contact us for details and prices. Early booking recommended.
Arriving by Car
Guests arriving by car are advised that, in snowy conditions, a 4WD vehicle with winter tires, or 2WD with snow chains is necessary. Vehicles that do not meet this specification will not be able to ascend the final slope to Momiji. If renting, please ensure your rental company is aware of these conditions.
Useful information
Generally, there is no need to reserve tickets for the bullet train or busses except around New Year and some Japanese public holidays. Unfortunately, you cannot reserve the bullet train from outside Japan, so it is only practicable to reserve once you are in Japan and have enough time to get to a Japan Railways ticket office before heading up to Hakuba.
Note there are two properties called Momiji in the valley. Kindly ensure you are heading to the right one! You can copy and paste the below Japanese text to show your taxi or transport provider:
白馬乗鞍の椛(もみじ)
小谷村千国乙12856−63(元かんてら)
There is also a cheap and very convenient luggage service including skis and snowboards (for which some weight restrictions apply) at the airports . Depending on your airport arrival time and weather permitting, you’ll get your items the next day.
